San Marino, May 30, 2017 – The first day of the XVII Games of the Small States of Europe ends with an evening full of emotions and beautiful performances. ATHLETICS – Five titles awarded under the spotlight at the San Marino Stadium. Among these, the two gold medals of pure speed, the 100 meter. Finally, for the 5000 meters male, Cypriot affirmation with Amine Khadiri, first on the finish line ahead of Luxembourg’s Pol Mellina and Marcus Sanza Arranz from Andorra. BASKET – Basketball’s long day ended up with Andorra’s victory over the hosts. The San Marino team has been defeated 84-69, and tomorrow it will be expected by the other defeated team of the day, Iceland, in a crucial evening.
BEACH VOLLEY – Double affirmation for Sammarinesian couples. Among women, Bulgarelli and Pini defeated Cypriot pair, formed by Angelopoulou and Konstantinou, 2-0. Same result for men, Giorgetti and Paganelli, victorious against Montenegrin Bagaric and Bojic.
VOLLEY – New affirmation for San Marino’s volleyball, thanks to 3-0 with no replies against girls of Malta. Tomorrow evening, at Alessandro Casadei’s venue, two new challenges for the home team. First the boys, against Cyprus to give continuity to the first victory against Monaco. Then San Marino’s girls, this time in front of Iceland, to keep a medal dream alive. TENNIS – The quarterfinals of the mix doubles’ tournament gave the qualification to the home team, formed by Gioia Barbieri and Marco De Rossi. For Sammarinese tennis players, a win in two sets, 6-3 6-2 on Andorrans Cartana and Cervos. For them, now, there will be a higher obstacle, the Cypriot pair Neos / Serban, number one in ranking.
