San Marino, Wednesday, May 31st – In a sunny and war day, the XVII games of the small states of Europe keep on going for the second day.
BOULES – Great emotions for San Marino’s team. In men’s raffle, semi-finals are a triumph for home athletes: Jacopo Frisoni beats Maltese David Farrugia, with the result of 12-7. The other challenge is won by Enrico Dall’Olmo, 12-4 on Monegasque Nicola Caroccia. Therefore, the gold and silver medals for San Marino will be awarded in the final of this afternoon, at the Borgo Maggiore bocciodrome.
In the morning, for women’s petanque, a cross challenge between Luxembourg and Monaco. One win, one loss for eache of the two countries: Nadia Fiorentini won on Marie-Laure Sanna for 13-6, while the other Monegasque Aline Monge won on Monique Jovanovic-Rassel for 13-9.
SWIMMING – Second day in the pool, full of interesting results. In 100m women’s back, still Eyglo Osk Gustafsdottir (Iceland, 1.04.43) shined, and Jacqueline Banky (Luxembourg, 1.05.28) as well, winning in their respective heats. Interesting also the time of the other Luxembourg, Sarah Rolko (1.06.20). Final qualifying for Sammarinese Carlotta Bulzoni, with the sixth absolute time (1.07.84). Among men, Max Mannes (Luxembourg, 58.16) won a very fast heat, while in the other group is won by Fillipos Iakovidis (Cyprus, 58.59).
Two lanes further down, Davide Bernardi conquered the pass for the final with the sixth absolute time, 1.01.57.
Also heats for 400 m free style. Among women, Julia Hassler (Liechtenstein, 4,23,47) and Monique Olivier (Luxembourg, 4,29,13) finished each first place, while Sara Lettoli accessed to her second final in two days, with a time of 4.31.02.
San Marino found another men’s finalist in the 400m freestyle, thanks to the Cristian Santi’s performance, third time of 4.11.44 in his heat, won by the Luxembourg Pit Brandenburger in 4.06.42. In the other heat, Cypriot Constantinos Hadjittooulis touched first, at 4.08.06.
In the 100 m butterfly, twinning heats for Bryndis Run Hansen, Iceland, in1.03.67, and for Tiffany Pou, Monaco, with the second absolute time, 1.04.09.
Another final for Sammarinese medalist, Beatrice Felici, fifth time for her, 1.04.71. Men’s 100 m butterfly, good results for Agust Juliusson (Iceland, 58.48) and Andrew Chetcuti (Malta, 56.78). This afternoon, at Multieventi venue in Serravalle, there will be a very though final in this speciality.
Closing the morrning program, women’s 200m breaststroke heats. Still Hrafnhildur Luthersdottir starred: Icelandic won her group with 2.33.65 time, in a session that also led Linda Canti to San Marino to the final. Seventh time for her, 2.49.77. The two athletes of Cyprus, Alexandra Schegoleva (2.35.42) and Eleni Stefanidou (240.93) are also in a good position for the podium.
TENNIS – Quarter-finals without glory for San Marino, in women’s board.Gioia Barbieri struggled with honor but surrended in two sets to Maltese Elaine Genovese, 7-5, 6-3. In men’s table, the Cypriot Eleftherios Neos gained a pass for semifinals, winning in two sets (6-1, 6-3) on Liechtenstein’s Robin Forster. Also a pass to semi-finals for Monaco’s Florent Diep, who defeated Luxembourg’s Alex Knaff 6-3 7-6.
BASKET – An intense challenge between girls from Luxembourg and Cyprus. The final result is 59-47 for Grand Duchy, while islanders are in the worst position, after second consecutive defeat after yesterday’s match against Malta.
SHOOTING AIR – In Men’s 10m Air Pistol Final, gold for Iceland, thanks to the performance of Asgeir Sigurgeirsson. Behind him, silver medal for Luxembourg’s Joe Dondelinger, while bronze went to Monaco with third place of Boris Jeremenko.
