Cyprus is the third largest and the third most populous island in the Mediterranean, with an area approximatively equal to 9.250 km2, and with a population oh 1.141.166 habitants. European State since the 1st of My 2004, the island is located in the southern Anatolian peninsula, and a small distance away form the eastern and Egyptian coasts.
The Cyprus Republic is a presidential republic, and it expands his sovereignty over the whole island as well as its territorial sea, with the exception of two small areas which are, Akrotiri and Dhekelia that are at the moment administered as sovereign base areas of the British administration.
European state, but from a geographic point of view, cyprus belongs to the asiatic continent, and according to the logic that a territory is part of a continent for his nearness location. Also because Turkey, in which the coast is extremely close to the island, it universally considered as asian (except for la Traccia).
The Republic of Cyprus is subdivided in six districts including: Famagusta District, Kyrenia District, Larnaca District, Limassol District, Nicosia District and Paphos District. The marine tourismaswellas the archeological one, have both well developed in the last 30 years, also thanks to the Unesco that has defined 3 archeological sites:
Choirokoita: The site is well preserved, which was an urban complex dating back to the Neolithic.
- Painted churches of Cyprus. We’re talking about ten buildings (including, 9 churches and 1 monastery), built in the byzantine era, between the XI and the XVI century, and scattered in the mountain chain of Troodos.
- Pafo (originally called Pafos), ancient port city located the outskirts in the eastern Cyprus, modernly Kouklia, was known and notated for his sanctuary dedicated to Aphrodite
